Hailed as the vehicle that started the crossover craze, the Qashqai aims to provide all the practicality of an SUV with the economy of a hatchback. The model was first released in 2007 and it ruled its market segment.

Following the initial popularity of the car, rival manufacturers have branched out to offer their own crossovers and small SUVs and the Qashqai now has more competition than ever from the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Honda CR-V, the Kia Sportage, the Mazda CX-5 and many more! Driving

At the top of the range, Nissan offers a 1.6-litre petrol or diesel engine, which delivers decent performance. You may not get as much of an exciting a ride as you would from competitors like the Mazda CX-5, but the Nissan Qashqai drives well and can certainly be relied upon.

Practicality

The Nissan Qashqai has appeared in the Co-op Insurance list of the top ten safest used cars on the market for three years running and since the organisation has only been conducting the study for the past three years, that’s saying something! It has a five-star Euro NCAP rating and is equipped with AEB.

Interior

If you are buying a used Nissan Qashqai, you can feel confident that it won’t fall apart, as the interior quality is quite impressive for an affordable crossover. You cannot fault the car for cabin space, with plenty of room for driver and passengers and the boot is fantastically versatile, with shelves and dividers that can be adjusted to accommodate your cargo.

If you are buying new, you would have to fork out between £20,000 and £30,000, whereas you can pick up a used Nissan Qashqai for half the price. The vehicle is efficient and will keep your tax bill low.

While the competition is getting tougher and tougher, this Nissan Qashqai is still one of the best small SUVs on sale.
